Sir,

RECEIV

ROFEB 1928

COL.C

GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONGKONG. 17th January, 1928.

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt

of Mr. Ormsby Core's despatch No.250 of 19th August, 1927, regarding the conditions of service of Nursing Sisters in Hong Kong and to inform you that in view of his representat- ions I am prepared to agree to the grant to nurses on a three years' agreement three months' leave in respect thereof with the proviso that a maximum of one month only may be taken during the agreement, thus leaving a minimum of two months available on its termination.

2.

This scheme of course automatically abolishes the provision of half pay during the voyage home (please see my despatch No.87 of 3rd March, 1927) as well as the 2 months leave laid down in Enclosure No.1 to my despatch No.477 of 25th November, 1926, and I shall be glad if the enclosed draft may be substituted for the paragraphs dealing with leave in that enclosure and also mutatis mutandis for paragraph 6 of the revised Colonial Office letter of selection the terms of which are, I fear, open to

misconstruction.

I have the honour to be, sår,

Your most obedient humble servant,

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

LIEUTENANT COLONEL L.C.M.S. ALIERY, M.P.,
